April School News: Snacks, flowers, library song, health checks, and more!

Help Fill our School Snack Stash!

Many classrooms and clubs at Roxhill provide snacks for students. In an effort to ensure all staff have snacks to draw from, we are starting a centralized snack collection. Can you help us feed our students? You can order snacks to directly to school using any online service or purchase snacks locally and drop off in the office for the collection. Please do not donate any snacks with nuts.

Yearbook Photos Needed (and 5th graders' baby pictures)

We are collecting photos for the 2024-2025 yearbook, which will be distributed at the end of June. Do you have photos from chaperoning a field trip or at one of our school events like Family Fun Night or Skate Night? Please email photos to friendsofroxhill@gmail.com or text 858-531-0751.

The cost is $20 per yearbook, and everyone will receive one regardless of ability to pay.

Buy spring plants to support our students

Spring is here! We are partnering again with Flower Power Fundraising to sell flower bulbs, kitchen garden herbs, sprouts, seeds and more to bring some joy to your home garden or window sill this spring and raise money for our school.

Friends of Roxhill Elementary receives 50% of the profits from every order.

Share the link with your friends, neighbors, co-workers and relatives across the country. They have a variety of plants for every climate!

Orders are shipped directly to the person placing the order starting April 1. Order deadline is May 15.

Got 15 minutes? Be a reading buddy!

We are excited to invite you to participate in a special volunteering opportunity at Roxhill! We are looking for parents who can spare just 15 minutes in the morning to read with our students from about 8:00 – 8:15am.

The goal is to encourage a love for reading and literacy among our students. By having parents, or community members come in to read with them, we hope to foster a positive reading environment and enhance their reading skills. Books and student lists will be provided, so all you need to bring is your enthusiasm for reading! Your presence and participation will make a difference.

If you are interested in volunteering for this program, please sign up for a shift here or you can sign up for multiple days to create a consistent schedule. We appreciate your support in enriching the educational experience of Roxhill students and look forward to seeing you at our school.

For more information about volunteering for reading, you can contact Roxhill Intervention Teacher, Katarina Ferguson at kmferguson@seattleschools.org.

If you are not already an approved SPS volunteer, you must apply for that first. The application process and background check take about 2 weeks.

Neighborcare Health News, especially for 5th graders

Hello Roxhill families. We have a few announcements specifically for Roxhill 5th graders

  • Does your student plan to participate in middle school sports next year? They will need to receive a sports physical before tryouts. Sports physicals last for two years; schedule one now at the Roxhill Health Center and avoid the last-minute rush!

  • Has your student received their 11-year-old immunizations? The CDC recommends that all children receive Tdap, MCV, and HPV immunizations at age 11. All three immunizations are available at the Roxhill Health Center.

  • Is your student due for their annual Well Child Check? If it has been twelve months or more since your student’s last Well Child Check, we recommend scheduling a Well Child Check with your student’s primary care provider or the Roxhill Health Center.

If you would like to receive more information about any of these services, or if you would like to schedule an appointment at the Health Center, send us a text, call, or email. All our services are available at no cost to families.
